Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada awarding more than $20,000 to students studying in mechanical contracting and engineering fields

OTTAWA, June 1, 2022 – The Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC) is now accepting applications for the 2022 Richard McKeagan Scholarship Series, which will award more than $20,000 to deserving students across Canada studying in the mechanical contracting and mechanical engineering fields.

The Richard McKeagan Scholarship Series, named in honour of past-CEO Richard McKeagan, is supported by MCAC Associate Members and MCA partners from across Canada to provide the funding for the program. Since its launch in 2006, the scholarship series has awarded more than $70,000 to post-secondary students, with some of whom going on to work in Canada’s mechanical contracting sector.

“Given the ongoing discussion around the skilled worker shortages across the country and our sector, the Richard McKeagan Scholarship Series is as important as ever,” said Wayne Davidson, President and Chair of MCA Canada. “Our association is dedicated to supporting the next generations of workers in our industry. The mechanical contracting sector plays a key role in Canada’s built environment, and it is critical that we connect with students to showcase the opportunities available to them both now, and into the future.”

The Richard McKeagan Scholarship Series targets the mechanical field of study and has been broadened to include several new initiatives, including scholarships specifically for females in the mechanical field, apprentices, and students dedicated to sustainability through design and engineering. This is in addition to the several scholarships available for financial assistance in the mechanical field of study.

Scholarships are available through the following MCAC Associate Members and MCA partners: Bradford White Canada, Equipco, Federated Insurance, Masco/Delta, MCA Hamilton-Niagara, Mitsubishi Electric, OS&B, Reliance Worldwide, Servco Canada, Taco Comfort Solutions, Uponor, Watts Water Technologies, the Women in Mechanical Construction initiative, and the broader Associate Membership of MCA Canada, which funds a single MCAC Associate Member Scholarship.

“As an association, we are very proud to see this program grow year after year,” added Davidson. “It is a testament to our associate members and our partners across Canada, who see the importance in reaching out to the next generation of workers. Our sector plays such an important role in Canadians’ day-to-day lives, and we all have a part to play in supporting the future leaders and workers in this industry.”
