Givens, of Western Mechanical in Barrie, succeeds Brad Mason of Winnipeg, Manitoba

OTTAWA, October 6, 2026 — At its 2026 Annual General Meeting, the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC) elected Joe Givens of Barrie, Ontario as the association’s new President and Chair, succeeding Brad Mason of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

“I am extremely excited to take on this role during what is arguably one of the most transformative times for Canada and our industry,” said Givens. “Canada’s mechanical and electrical contracting sector has such an impactful role to play in the years ahead, and this association is well positioned to represent our members best interests in Ottawa and across the country. I look forward to working with our board, volunteers, and staff to ensuring our members voices and concerns are heard.”

At its 2026 Annual General Meeting, Givens was unanimously elected to the role, following a two-year term from Mason, the previous Chair. The AGM was part of the association’s 2026 Annual Conference, held over three days in Kelowna, British Columbia, and which brought together close to 300 attendees and decision-makers from across North America.

Heading into Givens’ tenure, the association has made headway on several important advocacy initiatives, including the recently announced Productivity Mega Deduction and Team Canada Strong announcements, and is continuing the implementation of its 2024-2027 Strategic Plan in the face of an evolving political landscape and economic headwinds brought on by trade and supply chain uncertainty.

“As Canada looks to strengthen and support a resilient domestic economy, none of that work can happen without our mechanical and electrical contracting industry,” added Givens. “Our association and our sector have important work to do, not only for our members, but for Canadians who rely on this sector every single day. There has never been a more important time for a strong national association, and I am proud to be taking on this role today.”

As he took on the role, Givens thanked the previous leadership for helping to build a solid foundation for the association’s work in the year ahead.

“I want to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our past chair Brad Mason, and the work that was undertaken to strengthen our association over the past two years,” Givens added. “There is still work to be done, but I’m very optimistic about the steps our association has taken to be one of the most important voices for the construction industry in this country.”
